Ashley began at The Berklee College of Music
, in Boston, Massachusetts, after competing against 11 other inner-city teen-agers for a full scholarship. Berklee is the largest independent college of contemporary music in the world. At first known primarily as a school for jazz and commercial music, it has kept pace with changes in popular music and the music industry, offering college-level courses in a wide range of contemporary and historic styles, including hip-hop, reggae, salsa, and bluegrass, in addition to its traditional jazz courses.
